Lalie and Lydia went to a half-day week-long drama camp last week through the Parks and Rec. Friday was the big show - the play was called 'Lemonade'. The cast was made up of various nursery rhyme characters. Lydia was the Old Woman in the Shoe and Lalie was the Cat with the Fiddle. Even though Lydia couldn't read the script she memorized her lines and enjoyed singing the songs. The instructor is really good. Lalie has done two plays with her previously. Lalie has always loved drama but I wasn't sure how Lydia would take it. After the first day I could tell she enjoyed it and she wanted to go back. She wanted to invite everyone we knew from all over to come see the show on Friday.
When Friday rolled around Lydia woke up at 4 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. In my sleepy stupor I didn't put it together that she was probably nervous and/or excited for the play. But, the end result was that all three of us were VERY tired by the time the play rolled around. Lydia yawned several times on stage and, in her nervousness, spent most of the play with her arms crossed. She seemed to stare off into space during many of the songs but would wake up and get back in the groove when it was time to either move or get bumped into. She did though stand up and give her lines well and seemed pleased afterward. Several friends did come see the show and my mom and our friend both brought them flowers.
Tomorrow starts their last week-long summer camp. This one will be half-days of tennis. Tonight for the third time that I can recall in the past few weeks, Lalie read Lydia some books at bedtime and Lydia fell sound asleep. It's really cute.
