Random Thoughts

I can't actually see the blog or read any of the comments from Ethiopia but it sounds like it has been posting via email so that is good. I don't have a lot of time so here are just some random things:

- Within about 30 minutes of being in the hotel room Lydia had the nail polish out of my mom's bag and was doing her nails. We quickly realized we needed to put lots of things up high and away. Lydia is very curious and looks through everything.
- This must be so overwhelming for her. She flits from activity to activity pretty quickly.
- She brushed her teeth with toothpaste for the first time for all we can gather - they were using water. So, she has done it often.
- It's amazing how much food Lydia can eat! She knows where to find it in the room so we've had to put any candy up high.
- We tried to take a taxi to go out to dinner last night at a place I had heard about from someone on the Internet. The taxi driver said he knew where it was but where we ended up was not that place. The whole dinner was kind of fiasco. After dinner I was so exhausted I couldn't keep my eyes open and we went to bed at 8:00.
- The swimming pool at the Hilton is filled with hot springs water and they drain it and clean it every two weeks. They had cleaned it and were refilling it yesterday so it was off limits. But, it was open this morning and when they refill it it is very hot, like bath water. Then it cools off over the two weeks until the next cleaning. Since we'd all gone to bed early somehow we all were awake at 3:00 AM. So, at 5:30 AM we all went swimming in the moonlight. The crazy thing is that we weren't the only ones there. It takes apparently longer than a day to refill it so it was only about half way full. Lydia loved it at first then eventually got more scared. She said she had gone swimming before but I'm not sure that's the case. She didn't understand how to put her feet down on the bottom to stand up on her own or not to swallow the water.
- Lydia seems to have been doing her own hair for a good long time now and is not about to take advice from this old bird. So, she showered and washed her hair yesterday but she immediately slicked it straight back and put it into a pony tail again.
- Dr. Pepper chapstick was one of the biggest hits we brought.
