Random Observations of Lydia

Whew! The school year is over, my classroom is cleaned and closed up for the summer, and I've taken two naps in the two days since school has been out. Life is good. We are still waiting to hear final word on our new house but all is still looking good for us to move in about three weeks. I've started packing a few boxes.

Lydia's still very unsure about the whole moving thing. For awhile she asked about every little thing, "This going to new house?" and usually the answer is yes. She seems to be satisfied with that answer but doesn't understand WHEN we are moving. As I'm now packing boxes she says, "Tomorrow we change houses?" She's been asking that for about a month and I try to explain it to her but she's still struggling with the concept of time in terms of weeks or months.

The girls were signed up for drama camp this week but it was canceled for lack of sign-ups so it will be a few weeks now until their first camp. They are doing soccer, tennis and gymnastics camps this summer. Other than that we're just taking little trips here and there and of course, moving. Later today Lydia will be going on her first visit to a friend's house from school. It makes me a little nervous because she still struggles with her impulse control with touching things she shouldn't (like the buttons on someone else's cell phone, other people's TVs, etc.) but she is improving a little every day. I do love that she has a little friend of her own who wants her to come visit. She is SO excited to go.

Here are some recent random observations of Lydia:

"tomorrow tomorrow" = the day after tomorrow
"rise" = fries

"This one good? Or bad?" During most movies and TV shows, Lydia tries to discern which characters are good and which are evil - although she asks repeatedly about the same characters throughout the show. It does relax her to know when a character is deemed "good". Usually the questions are for Lalie who tends to be watching with her. It depends on Lalie's mood whether she gets exasperated and shouts out the answer or whether she will answer nicely and give helpful additional information.

Lydia can watch a movie over and over and still laugh big belly laughs and shriek at the funny parts while gasping and screaming at the bad parts. Sometimes she'll tell the character what to do or not do.

One of the things she does lately is go onto the Disney Channel Website, plug in headphones and then sing (at the top of her lungs) and dance with the videos.

The picture above is from a week ago when my mom took the girls to a town festival. Lydia was so excited with her Spiderman face that she wanted to sleep with a scarf over her face to protect the paint. On the last day of school she wrapped a copy of this photo up for her teachers. At school it looks like possibly all students in her class received a certificate during the final days. Lydia's was a Personality Award for "Endless Energy". That about sums it up. :-)

I'm so glad to hear that Lydia continues to adjust. I can't wait to hear how the move goes for her.
